Bethany Somers is a visual artist and designer, involved in a variety of creative fields. Originally from Wilmington, Delaware she began drawing from the time she could put pen to paper. Over time, a love for paint, graphic design, illustration, fashion, photography, and interiors accumulated into a range of genres with a consistent stylistic influence. Bethany’s pursuit of an art career started at Delaware College of Art and Design in Wilmington as a Graphic Design major. The following year, she transferred to Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida graduating with a BFA in Illustration in May 2007. With a recent move to Portland, Oregon, Bethany continues to build freelance clientele locally and nationally. She plans to get involved with Portland’s galleries and its design industry, whichever field may be targeted. Influences include Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Alfonse Mucha, David Byrd, Wes Wilson, Milton Glaser, Joanne Gair and David Lachapelle. Bethany’s work is based upon a transformation of the eye involving conceptual depth and personality; beautifying an unlikely perception.
